One of the things I most enjoy about leading a drawing workshop is exploring and presenting works by artists outside the traditional canon of Western Fine Art. Surely the Old Masters and the French Realists provide marvelous examples of artistry and expert drafting. But it's important to move the needle forward by peering into the vast world outside the traditional paradigm. This intriguing piece by Jenny Saville, called Study for Pieta IV, went to auction recently at Christie's. I'm offering it as study material for my drawing workshop participants enrolled in my Friday morning class called Drawing Faces and Figures.
